On March 23rd, Dulwich College in London played host to one of the most anticipated events in the design calendar: the Mid-Century Modern Show. With 80 of the UK’s top dealers under one roof and a strong turnout from design-savvy buyers, it was a fantastic day for anyone with a love for timeless, 20th-century design.

As always, the fair didn’t disappoint. From iconic Scandinavian chairs to beautifully restored sideboards, there was no shortage of treasures to discover. For us at Mid Century Design Haus, it was a particularly special day, we were delighted to find a new home for one of our favourite pieces; a stunning pair of green leather Falcon chairs with chrome steel frames, originally designed by Sigurd Russell in the 1970s.
These chairs are a great example of how design evolves. Russell’s original models from the 1960s featured solid teak frames, but by the '70s, chrome began to take centre stage. As our founder, Gudarz, noted on the day, “Chrome is coming back into vogue — it’s very much in fashion right now.” The Surrey-based couple who purchased the pair were thrilled to take them home, and we couldn’t have asked for a better match. The chairs sold for £3,000, a testament to both their quality and the growing appreciation for post-war modernist pieces.
We also noticed a broader trend at the fair: chairs are definitely having a moment. “Chairs are much more popular,” Gudarz observed, and we couldn’t agree more. Collectors and decorators alike seem to be prioritising stylish, standalone seating, pieces that can transform a corner or make a statement in a room.
As always, it was a pleasure to connect with fellow dealers, design enthusiasts, and returning clients. Events like these are a reminder of how much passion and community exists around mid-century design, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
The day was topped off by a well-appreciated visit to our stall by one of the industry's greats, Mr Drew Pritchard, who we consider a colleague and an inspiring friend.
